PERSISTENT RAIN FORECAST CANCELS MOD SQUAD NAT'LS AT LONESOME PINE
Next Up - Next Sunday, October 1 at Pulaski County Motorsports Park
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Martinsville, VA (September 15, 2023) - Due to a considerable amount of rain in the forecast for both Saturday and Sunday in the Coeburn, VA region, the Mod Squad Nationals (scheduled for Sunday, September 17) for the SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matic at Lonesome Pine Motorsports Park has been canceled. The series and facility are working together to schedule a race at the picturesque track again in 2024.
Teams for the SMART Modifieds are now preparing for the stretch run of the season, which includes the final four races in a five-week span.
It all kicks off with The Radford Race on Sunday, October 1, at Pulaski County Motorsports Park, which is better known as Motor Mile Speedway, in Fairlawn, VA. The track is adjacent to Radford, VA, but the race is named after one of the most prolific southern modified racers of all time, Paul Radford. Please visit the Motor Mile Speedway website for more information on the event.
Series top point man Burt Myers, from Walnut Cove, NC, leads the standings by 37 markers over Winston-Salem, NC driver Brandon Ward. That pair is also the only combination with multiple wins in 2023.

The SMART Modified Tour captures the essence of one of the most legendary forms of racing in America, pavement Modifieds. Born in 1988, these ground-pounding, 600-horsepower missiles are a must-see for any racing fan.
In 2020, Chris Williams brought SMART Modifieds back to prominence after a brief hiatus. Due to the overwhelming popularity from its fan base, a four-race schedule in its initial year has given birth to an adventurous 14-race schedule in 2023.
This year will mark the third full-season of SMART Modified Tour racing. Many of Modified racing’s best drivers, from all over the country, will compete with the series, which visits 13 different racetracks in three different states in the Mid-Atlantic - North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
SMART Modifieds compete on grueling asphalt oval short tracks, embedded in quaint local communities, each spring, summer and fall.
