John-Michael Shenette will be chasing Rookie of the Year and championship honors on the SMART Modified Tour down south in 2024. As a new Modified team, Shenette’s major goal will be racing for the Racing Electronics Rookie of the Year during the 15-race schedule.
The SMART Modified season includes multiple staple events and a variety of race tracks in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, spanning from March through October.
“The SMART Modified Tour has a great schedule they have put together and some stout competition out there to race against,” John-Michael Shenette said. “We’ve been watching their success since their rebirth the last few years and feel it’s only right that we compete for the Racing Electronics Rookie of the Year. Our goals will be to go out there and try to be consistent, but we want to win a race and be in contention to race for the championship by the end of the year.”
Shenette was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, and started racing at 7-years-old at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park’s “Little T” track in Connecticut. He’s raced on and off his entire life - running in the Pro Stocks, Thompson Modifieds, PASS Super Late Models, ARTS Trucks, Karts and now Tour-Type Modifieds 30 years later.
The SMART Modified Tour schedule opens on March 2 at Florence Motor Speedway and has three more events in March. April includes two more, while May has one, July has one, August has two, September three and October two. The championship event on the 15-race schedule will take place at the famed North Wilkesboro Speedway in North Carolina on October 19.
