TWO RACES, TWO TRACKS, ONE DAY - HISTORY BEING MADE ON NC COAST FOR SMART
Saturday’s Doubleheader - New River All-American & Carteret County Speedways
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jacksonville, NC (August 30, 2024) - Rain on the North Carolina coast is the reason racing fans will witness one of the most historic days for pavement racing in America. The SMART Modified Tour Beach Trip will now be two races at two tracks, in a single day, for one series.
On Saturday, August 31, at 9am ET, the Pace-O-Matic 99 will go green for the SMART stars at New River All-American Speedway in Jacksonville, NC. The starting grid was determined by practice speeds and a redraw after lightning washed out qualifying.
After the race, teams will pack up and travel 34 miles closer to the ocean to compete in the “Carteret Clash” at Carteret County Speedway in Swansboro, NC. Pit gates are scheduled to open at 1:30pm ET, with practice at 3:15pm for the Modifieds. Qualifying is slated for 5:15pm, with racing to begin at 7pm. The 99-lap race for SMART is the fourth main event on the docket.
Heavy rain and lightning on Friday night forced the postponement of the New River All-American Speedway event to Saturday morning at 9am.
“We talked to the racers and this is the best option. We didn’t have another open date on our schedule for the rest of the year, and since the teams were already here, it is better to race in the (Saturday) morning than on Sunday,” said Chris Williams, SMART Series Director. “We know anything can happen in the first race of the day, but we will help wherever we can as a series, to make sure all competitors have a chance to compete in both races.”
Both races on Saturday will be streamed live on FloRacing, the official streaming broadcast partner of the SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matic.

SMART Modified Tour
The SMART Modified Tour captures the essence of one of the most legendary forms of racing in America, pavement Modifieds. Born in 1988, these ground-pounding, 600-horsepower missiles for the SMART Tour are a must-see for any racing fan.
In 2020, Chris Williams brought SMART Modifieds back to prominence after a brief hiatus. Due to the overwhelming popularity from its fan base, a four-race schedule in its initial year has given birth to an adventurous 15-race schedule in 2024.
This year will mark the fourth full-season of SMART Modified Tour racing since its return. Many of Modified racing’s best drivers, from all over the country, will compete with the series, which visits 13 different racetracks in three different states in the Mid-Atlantic - North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
SMART Modifieds compete on grueling asphalt oval short tracks, embedded in quaint local communities, each spring, summer and fall.
