SMART MODS HEADED BACK TO SOBO ON OCTOBER 14
SOUTH BOSTON'S PACE-O-MATIC 99 TO BE PART OF THE "SMART 3" CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Martinsville, VA (August 8, 2023) - The SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matic is proud to announce a new event in October at one of the Tour’s most successful venues, South Boston Speedway in Virginia.
The “Pace-O-Matic 99” will be held at the legendary South Boston Speedway on Saturday, October 14, and will serve as the penultimate event of the season. It will also be the race to decide who the “SMART 3” championship contenders will be in the finale on Saturday, October 28 at Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, NC.
The race replaces the event scheduled at Rockingham Speedway as renovations continue at the North Carolina facility.
“We are excited that South Boston Speedway has offered us the opportunity to race in the heart of Modified country once again,” said Chris Williams, Director of the SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matc. “If the first race at South Boston was any indication, our championship fight for this race will be exciting on October 14.”
The SMART Modified Tour visited South Boston Speedway earlier this year (April 1). Fans in the packed grandstand were treated to an exciting race won by Lexington, North Carolina’s Brian Loftin.
“We are happy to step up and host this race for the SMART Modified Tour,” said Chase Brashears, General Manager of South Boston Speedway. “South Boston is synonymous with Modifieds, and we are thrilled to now be able to close our racing season with some exciting open-wheel action.” More details for the SMART Modified Tour event at SOBO on Saturday, October 14 will be announced soon. Please visit the South Boston Speedway website for more information on the facility.
The next event for the SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matic, the Robert Jeffreys Memorial, will be held at Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, NC on Friday, August 25. For more regarding the entire night of racing, please visit the Ace Speedway website.

SMART Modified Tour
The SMART Modified Tour captures the essence of one of the most legendary forms of racing in America, pavement Modifieds. Born in 1988, these ground-pounding, 600-horsepower missiles are a must-see for any racing fan.
In 2020, Chris Williams brought SMART Modifieds back to prominence after a brief hiatus. Due to the overwhelming popularity from its fan base, a four-race schedule in its initial year has given birth to an adventurous 14-race schedule in 2023.
This year will mark the third full-season of SMART Modified Tour racing. Many of Modified racing’s best drivers, from all over the country, will compete with the series, which visits 13 different racetracks in three different states in the Mid-Atlantic - North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
SMART Modifieds compete on grueling asphalt oval short tracks, embedded in quaint local communities, each spring, summer and fall.
