SMART MODS AIMING FOR 6 WINNERS IN 6 RACES WHEN IT ROLLS INTO ACE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Martinsville, VA (June 15, 2023) - Parity is the theme of 2023 for the SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matic and now a series record could be tied at its next event, the Robert Jeffreys Memorial at Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, NC on Friday, June 23.
The SMART Mod Tour has seen five winners in its first five races of this year, a feat that was also achieved in 1996 and 1994.
Five winners in five races is one short of the record of six winners in the first six events. That mark has been set on three different occasions, 1989, 1992 and in 2021.
Matt Hirschman won the season opener for the SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matic in March at Florence Motor Speedway in South Carolina. Series title contender Brandon Ward followed that up with a “W” a couple weeks later at North Carolina’s Caraway Speedway. A trip to Virginia in April put Brian Loftin in victory lane, while defending tour champion Caleb Heady was triumphant in April at Hickory Motor Speedway in North Carolina. Current SMART Mods point leader Burt Myers is the most recent winner after scoring the victory at Franklin County Speedway in Virginia in May.
“While we have had some big names in victory lane already this year, we all think there are several different drivers who could keep this streak alive when the race at Ace Speedway is over,” said Bob Dillner, the voice of the SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matic. “Joey Coulter has finished second a couple of times and has been red hot as of late. The NASCAR guys, Bobby Labonte and Ryan Newman have been ultra fast too. The list goes on and on, Jonathan Brown, Tim Brown, Jason Myers, Bobby Measmer Jr, Dennis Holdren and even the rookie, Carson Loftin looks like he’s ready to score a win. There are plenty of other names that could keep this streak going as well.”
Ironically, there have been six different victors in six previous races for the SMART Mods at Ace Speedway. Among those, only two are active drivers, Burt Myers (2002) and Jonathan Brown (2021).
The race at Ace Speedway will pay tribute to Robert Jeffreys, one of Southern Modified racing’s all-time best and longest supporters. He won the inaugural SMART Modified Tour race at Langley Field Speedway (now Langley Speedway - VA) on April 9, 1989. He went on to make 77-starts with the series and accumulated three victories.
More details for the Robert Jeffreys Memorial with the SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matic on Friday, June 23 will be announced soon, including the raceday schedule for the event. For more regarding the entire night of racing, please visit the Ace Speedway website.

SMART Modified Tour
The SMART Modified Tour captures the essence of one of the most legendary forms of racing in America, pavement Modifieds. Born in 1988, these ground-pounding, 600-horsepower missiles are a must-see for any racing fan.
In 2020, Chris Williams brought SMART Modifieds back to prominence after a brief hiatus. Due to the overwhelming popularity from its fan base, a four-race schedule in its initial year has given birth to an adventurous 14-race schedule in 2023.
This year will mark the third full-season of SMART Modified Tour racing. Many of Modified racing’s best drivers, from all over the country, will compete with the series, which visits 13 different racetracks in three different states in the Mid-Atlantic - North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
SMART Modifieds compete on grueling asphalt oval short tracks, embedded in quaint local communities, each spring, summer and fall.
