LONESOME PINE RACE FOR WEDNESDAY CANCELED DUE TO TROPICAL SYSTEM
SMART Playoff Now Two Races - SOBO on Oct. 12 & North Wilkesboro on Oct. 19
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Martinsville, VA (September 16, 2024) - Mother nature has other plans for the first round of the playoffs for the SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matic. Heavy rains forecasted from a tropical system for Wednesday, September 18, forced the cancellation of the Mod Squad Nationals at Lonesome Pine Motorsports Park in Coeburn, Virginia.
And then there were two. With the opening race of the playoffs canceled, the SMART Mods will have two races for its playoff to decide the 2024 champion. The playoff contenders are the top five in points after the most-recent race at Dominion Speedway (VA); Carson Loftin (23), Luke Baldwin (7va), Danny Bohn (24), Ryan Newman (2) and Burt Myers (1).
On Saturday, October 12, those drivers will compete in the penultimate race of the season at another Virginia race track, South Boston Speedway. That race will decide the SMART 3 (drivers) who will compete for the championship in the season finale at North Wilkesboro Speedway, in North Carolina, on Saturday, October 19.
The two playoff drivers with the least amount of points exiting South Boston Speedway’s event on October 12, will be eliminated, unless that driver happens to be the winner of either race, who would automatically qualify as one of the SMART 3 in the season finale. If the winner of either event happens to have the lowest point total of the playoff contenders, the next lowest drivers in points would be eliminated. The rules for the playoffs were detailed recently in a series press release.
This marks the second-straight season South Boston Speedway is hosting a late-season race for the SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matic. New York’s Andy Jankowiak won the event last October.
Advance tickets for the Saturday, October 12, SMART Modified Tour event are priced at $17 each. Advance tickets may be purchased online on South Boston Speedway’s website, www.southbostonspeedway.com or by calling the speedway office at 434-572-4947 or toll free at 1-877-440-1540 during regular business hours.

SMART Modified Tour
The SMART Modified Tour captures the essence of one of the most legendary forms of racing in America, pavement Modifieds. Born in 1988, these ground-pounding, 600-horsepower missiles for the SMART Tour are a must-see for any racing fan.
In 2020, Chris Williams brought SMART Modifieds back to prominence after a brief hiatus. Due to the overwhelming popularity from its fan base, a four-race schedule in its initial year has given birth to an adventurous 15-race schedule in 2024.
This year will mark the fourth full-season of SMART Modified Tour racing since its return. Many of Modified racing’s best drivers, from all over the country, will compete with the series, which visits 13 different racetracks in three different states in the Mid-Atlantic - North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
SMART Modifieds compete on grueling asphalt oval short tracks, embedded in quaint local communities, each spring, summer and fall.
