BOWMAN GRAY CHAMP GOING FOR WIN IN SMART MODS FRIDAY AT ACE
Brandon Ward is Focused on Winning Two Titles In 2023
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Martinsville, VA (August 23, 2023) - The NASCAR Modified Champion at Bowman Gray Stadium is racing the SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matic event this Friday (August 25) at Ace Speedway in Elon, NC.
Brandon Ward captured his first Madhouse title on Saturday in his hometown of Winston-Salem, NC. Going into the final night of racing at Bowman Gray Stadium, Ward found himself second in points. Ironically, he is also tied for second in the standings heading into Friday’s SMART Modified race, the Robert Jeffreys Memorial, at Ace Speedway.
“I’ve definitely learned that no matter what, it can come down to the last lap,” said Ward, who did not win a race at The Stadium this season. “It means a lot to me to be the Modified champion at Bowman Gray Stadium. We already have a win this year on the SMART Tour, so that helps with the momentum to push through the next few SMART races and try to chase another championship.”
The SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matic has four consecutive weeks worth of racing after more than a month-long break. Now the veteran racer feels as though he’s got one mission completed and one more to go.
“I agree with that statement 100%,” admitted Ward, who drives the KevinSaysYes.com, number-2 car with the SMART Modifieds. “We set out this year to chase both titles. We finished second in both last year and now one of those tasks for this year is complete. It was great to get New Day Motorsports a championship (at Bowman Gray Stadium) and now I’m ready to work hard at trying to win one for Coulter Motorsports on the SMART Tour.
“It’s always fun to race with Randy Renfrow and this team,” continued Ward. “We have several good tracks coming up. I’m hoping we can pick up a few more wins and be in the SMART 3 at the end (October 28 at Orange County Speedway) to compete for the title once again.”
Ironically, the driver who won the season finale at Bowman Gray Stadium on Saturday night is the current point leader for the SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matic. Burt Myers, from Walnut Cove, NC, has won the last two SMART Modified races (Franklin County Speedway (VA) and Caraway Speedway (NC). This weekend Myers takes a 40-point advantage over Ward and his teammate Joey Coulter, from Miami Springs, FL, who are tied in the standings.
This Friday, August 25, registration for teams begins at 11:30am (ET). The SMART drivers meeting is scheduled at 2:30pm with practice at 3:00pm. Qualifying for the SMART Modifieds powered by Pace-O-Matic will be at 7:00pm, with the 99-lap Robert Jeffreys Memorial slated for 9:00pm.

SMART Modified Tour
The SMART Modified Tour captures the essence of one of the most legendary forms of racing in America, pavement Modifieds. Born in 1988, these ground-pounding, 600-horsepower missiles are a must-see for any racing fan.
In 2020, Chris Williams brought SMART Modifieds back to prominence after a brief hiatus. Due to the overwhelming popularity from its fan base, a four-race schedule in its initial year has given birth to an adventurous 14-race schedule in 2023.
This year will mark the third full-season of SMART Modified Tour racing. Many of Modified racing’s best drivers, from all over the country, will compete with the series, which visits 13 different racetracks in three different states in the Mid-Atlantic - North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
SMART Modifieds compete on grueling asphalt oval short tracks, embedded in quaint local communities, each spring, summer and fall.
