BAD TO THE BOHN RACING FULL-TIME WITH SMART MODS IN 2024
Danny Bohn & Buddy Ellis Team Up To Contend for SMART Championship
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Martinsville, VA (February 17, 2024) - The full-time roster for the SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matic just pulled in another championship contender. Third-generation Modified pilot Danny Bohn will race the entire SMART Modified campaign in 2024 in the Buddy Ellis owned number-24 car.
“With scheduling conflicts I haven’t been able to commit to running for points in a long time, so it’s nice to ink this deal in and have a plan for the year,” said Bohn, who has made six-career starts with the SMART Mods. “I’m ready to focus in and shoot for the big picture. We hope to win some races and have a shot at the title at the season finale.
“Ever since I got the call to drive for them in 2021, I’ve always gotten along well with Buddy and Lisa (wife). We only live 5 minutes apart,” added Bohn. “I was able to help them with the owners championship in 2021 and I’ve continued to help them some since then. When I got the opportunity to get back in their car last year, we had fun.”
Bohn, who is searching for his first win with the series, will be an instant contender with the equipment of the Buddy Ellis team, which has won three SMART races.
“We both feel that running the SMART Modified Tour can show the capabilities we have assembled as a group,” said Ellis. “Everyone involved feels that we have unfinished business as a team after winning the owners championship in 2021. Racing has always been a way of life for both of us.”
Danny Bohn is a third-generation racer. His grandfather, Parker, was a legend in Modified competition and also a former victor in what is now known as the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Danny’s father, Eddie, is another storied racer out of New Jersey. He too won many Modified races in the Northeast, including being a five-time winner of the Turkey Derby at Wall Stadium (NJ).
Danny Bohn has seen success from Modifieds to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. In fact, he is a 16-time winner in NASCAR Modified competition at Bowman Gray Stadium in North Carolina.
“Buddy, my dad and my guys will be such a big part of what we do. I’m happy to see how the SMART Tour has grown in the past few years and the job that they do with marketing and coverage. We have good equipment and hope to turn some eyes this season,” stated Bohn.
“Danny brings a high level of intensity, determination, and professionalism to the table and is driven to be the best every time he straps into whatever he is driving,” admitted Ellis. “First and foremost we want to have fun and collect some wins, trophies, and championships. We want to bring recognition to the individuals and companies that continue to support us.”
Amerifast Supply Company, as well as EM Consulting of North Carolina, Bilstein Shocks, ZMAX Lubricants, Duncan Oil and Tony’s Competition Engines are part of the 24-team this year.
In 2024, SMART fans will be treated to 15 races at 13 different facilities in the tri-state region of North and South Carolina, as well as Virginia. The 2024 campaign kicks off when the 600-horsepower Modifieds tackle Florence Motor Speedway in Timmonsville, SC for the Peanut Patch 99 on Saturday, March 2. The season commences at the famed North Wilkesboro Speedway in North Carolina on Saturday, October 19.
All races can also be seen on FloRacing, the official streaming broadcast partner of the SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matic Burt Myers captured the 2023 championship for the SMART Modified Tour in the season’s final race in October. SMART Modified Tour
The SMART Modified Tour captures the essence of one of the most legendary forms of racing in America, pavement Modifieds. Born in 1988, these ground-pounding, 600-horsepower missiles for the SMART Tour are a must-see for any racing fan.
In 2020, Chris Williams brought SMART Modifieds back to prominence after a brief hiatus. Due to the overwhelming popularity from its fan base, a four-race schedule in its initial year has given birth to an adventurous 15-race schedule in 2024.
This year will mark the fourth full-season of SMART Modified Tour racing since its return. Many of Modified racing’s best drivers, from all over the country, will compete with the series, which visits 13 different racetracks in three different states in the Mid-Atlantic - North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. SMART Modifieds compete on grueling asphalt oval short tracks, embedded in quaint local communities, each spring, summer and fall.
