ACE SPEEDWAY SMART MODS RACE TABBED ROBERT JEFFREYS MEMORIAL
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Martinsville, VA (June 1, 2023) - The SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matic enjoys celebrating the tradition of Modified racing in the South. On Friday, June 23, SMART will pay tribute to another important piece to that culture at Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, NC, with the Robert Jeffreys Memorial.
Simply, Robert Jeffreys is one of Southern Modified racing’s all-time best and longest supporters. He won the inaugural SMART Modified Tour race at Langley Field Speedway (now Langley Speedway - VA) on April 9, 1989. He went on to make 77-starts with the series and accumulated three victories.
Jeffreys was also a mainstay at Bowman Gray Stadium for years with 720 career starts. Along the way, the elder statesman of the Jeffreys racing family would collect 33 victories and two NASCAR Modified championships (1994 and 1995).
“We are proud to be able to honor one of the best from Southern Modified racing and a true gentlemen of the sport,” said Chris Williams, Director of the SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matic. “Robert’s legacy will live on forever to all those who watched him and now it is fun to watch his son, Lee, continue that tradition in Modified racing. We are looking forward to this race and have designed a special logo for it to honor Robert.”
The logo for the Robert Jeffreys Memorial depicts the colors and number that Jeffreys used throughout his driving career. His son carries on his legacy by utilizing a similar scheme in racing to this day. In fact, Jeffreys plans to race on June 23 in his father’s memorial event.
“A lot of people don’t realize that he ran a lot of those SMART races,” said Lee Jeffreys about his father. “For them to have a race in his honor is special. He won races, but most importantly he supported it. He was always there to help people that needed help. They didn’t have a lot of money to run those races back then.
“I know he’s looking down, still not wanting or caring to have attention or the spotlight, but is thankful for it,” continued Lee. “I’m working on finishing up my car so I can race in this race as well. It’s not easy for me, as everything I do away from the Stadium is self funded, but I’ll be there and am looking forward to it.”
More details for the Robert Jeffreys Memorial on Friday, June 23 with the SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matic will be announced soon, including the racing schedule for the event. For more regarding the entire night of racing, please visit the Ace Speedway website.

SMART Modified Tour
The SMART Modified Tour captures the essence of one of the most legendary forms of racing in America, pavement Modifieds. Born in 1988, these ground-pounding, 600-horsepower missiles are a must-see for any racing fan.
In 2020, Chris Williams brought SMART Modifieds back to prominence after a brief hiatus. Due to the overwhelming popularity from its fan base, a four-race schedule in its initial year has given birth to an adventurous 14-race schedule in 2023.
This year will mark the third full-season of SMART Modified Tour racing. Many of Modified racing’s best drivers, from all over the country, will compete with the series, which visits 13 different racetracks in three different states in the Mid-Atlantic - North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
SMART Modifieds compete on grueling asphalt oval short tracks, embedded in quaint local communities, each spring, summer and fall.
