SMART RELEASES RESCHEDULED DATE FOR MOD SQUAD NAT'LS AT LPMP
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Martinsville, VA (May 1, 2023) - The Tennessee / Virginia border will be filled with racing the third weekend of September (2023). The SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matic released today that the Mod Squad Nationals at Lonesome Pine Motorsports Park in Coeburn, VA will be on Sunday afternoon, September 17. The original date, in March, was postponed due to an arctic blast in the surrounding areas.
The region will have plenty of racing action that week. In addition to the Mod Squad Nationals, the NASCAR Cup Series will have its playoff race the night before the event, on Saturday, September 16, at Bristol Motor Speedway (TN). Fans hoping to catch plenty of racing action in one weekend can do so on Saturday at Bristol and Sunday, just up the road, with the SMART Modifieds at Lonesome Pine Motorsports Park.
“I am looking forward to the new date Mark Ebert and the Lonesome Pine staff has chosen,” said Chris Williams, Director of the SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matic. “I anticipate a great car count, a big crowd and good weather. I can’t wait to get Modifieds back on track at Lonesome Pine.”
The SMART Modified Tour has visited Lonesome Pine on two different occasions. It first competed at the track in 1990 when the series all-time winningest driver, Junior Miller, went to victory lane. The SMART Mods last competed, at what was then known as Lonesome Pine Raceway in 1999. Two of SMART’s most successful drivers shined on that day. Frank Fleming and Jay Hedgecock are tied for second on the SMART all-time win list (22 victories) and in 1999, Hedgecock set fast-time and Fleming won the race.
More details regarding the Mod Squad Nationals on Sunday, September 17 for the SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matic will be announced soon. For more information regarding the track please visit lonesomepinemp.com.

SMART Modified Tour
The SMART Modified Tour captures the essence of one of the most legendary forms of racing in America, pavement Modifieds. Born in 1988, these ground-pounding, 600-horsepower missiles are a must-see for any racing fan.
In 2020, Chris Williams brought SMART Modifieds back to prominence after a brief hiatus. Due to the overwhelming popularity from its fan base, a four-race schedule in its initial year has given birth to an adventurous 14-race schedule in 2023.
This year will mark the third full-season of SMART Modified Tour racing. Many of Modified racing’s best drivers, from all over the country, will compete with the series, which visits 13 different racetracks in three different states in the Mid-Atlantic - North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
SMART Modifieds compete on grueling asphalt oval short tracks, embedded in quaint local communities, each spring, summer and fall.
