SMART MODIFIED TOUR FOLLOWS THE OFFICIAL NASCAR MODIFIED TOUR RULES BOOK
ONLY A FEW RULES ARE WRITTEN TO SUPERSEDE THE ORIGINAL
***2023 RULES AND PENALTIES AMMENDED***
SMART Modified rule book Complete… All teams will receive a printed copy before first race.
Changes from last year to Rules:
- Roof can be non Metallic
- Transmission can be top or side shifter
- Soaked tire = 2 race suspension
- Big motor, carburetor = disqualification and up to six month suspension
- Any electronic device = automatic six month suspension if deemed traction control - 1yr suspension
- No GoPro, apple watches, phones and other electronic device in car for race
- Due to safety and monetary concerns will have controlled cautions at these tracks: Franklin County, Carteret, Dominion, Rockingham
- All Races will be run to 99-100 laps. We will monitor length of time. If we get to race limits, the race Director will notify teams of laps remaining.
- All teams will monitor Race Control. RE will help facilitate and loan 6 spotter radios for ones not in compliance for the event.
- All practice tires this year will not be scanned… Race Tires only Scanned.
- Reminder of rule policies; considering professional conduct at track, pits, on track, social media and personnel. You are representing your sponsors and the tours. Credibility and accountability is a must.

RULES AND PROCEDURES ADDENDUM
Motor Rules
• Tour Spec - 830 carb - 2645 lbs. - 56% LS • Built Motors - 390 carb (Tour Type) up to 2” spacer (1 pc) - 358 ci = 2609 lbs. - 56% LS • Built Motors With D Heads - 390 carb (Tour Type) up to 1”spacer (NO TAPOR - 358 ci = 2645 lbs. - 56% LS • Progressive/ LMSC - 650 - 2645 lbs. - 56% LS Tires • LS M20 RSM30 • Tour Tires inspected, scanned, impounded, and policed by Hoosier Tire South • 5 tire event (May qualify on scuff LF) • LS emergency scuff will be marked placed across from pit area. Change tire must be a sticker. • If team has a RS tire go flat the one remaining RS banked scanned tire must be used. If the said tire has already been used the RS that came off must go back on. At no time should a car have a un-scanned , non banked RS tire on the car. If so, it is a unapproved tire change and will result In a two lap penalty. Race Day Procedures • 99 green flag laps - 2 Stages - 30 laps/end of race - May pit at any time... can’t lose a lap but can lose position - All Crew members pitting car are required to wear a helmet - Tire Draw and qualifying order the same - After qualifying there will be a draw for starting positions, how many to be determined by Tour Director - All Carburetors will be checked and sealed - Cars come to scales In Qualifying order - 2 lap Qualifying - After qualifying complete cars will proceed to impound 2 crew members allowed to make tire pressure adjustment and or take off block off - Race adjustments are allowed but you can not jack the car before race. No gear or mechanical adjustments after qualifying. Unapproved adjustments one lap penalty have to be earned back - Initial start is controlled by the Flagman - All other restarts are controlled by P1 in the restart zone if P2 fires first yellow will be displayed and P2 will go to the end of the longest line - If either P1 or P2 fire before the restart zone same will apply, to the end of the longest line If P1 doesn’t start by the end of the zone the Flagman will wave the green flag • Cautions - Field is frozen when Yellow is displayed. Lineup determined by last completed green flag lap - The Race Director will open Pit road after the pace car has the filed in tow - Lucky dog will be determined and proceed to the end of the longest line... all other Lap down cars will fall to the rear. They will not be allowed to take the cone it will be determined by position - If you are the caution you can pit but not take the cone - Wave around rule in effect with one to go for cars that do not pit - All restarts are cone restarts the entire Race - If the caution comes out after the leader has taken the white flag but doesn’t reach the middle of the backstretch a GWC will be attempted - Unlimited GWC - Designated penalty - If a car stops on the track and doesn’t receive a tow to the pits driver will be assessed a 2 lap penalty. Penalty laps have to be earned back. No refueling during event... If so car will parked for remainder of event Rear End • Any differential • Quick change only • Steel Magnetic tubes only • Steel Magnetic 15 inch wide wheels only Modified Bodies - Must be Tour Type appearing Ignition Boxes - No dial in boxes. must be a 2 prong push in rev Limiter, plug in capabilities Transmission - No Direct Drive Suspension • Max 1 shock/Spring per wheel • No External Canisters allowed • Front suspension Teathers required • No Rear Sway Bars • Maximun 84 inch tread width • Wheel base 104 - 110 inches No Electronic Data used on raceday Safety - Tour Rules apply - All SFI safety equipment recommended Testing - No testing will be allowed seven days prior, week before event at the track the event is being held at. |
